Inauguration of Mobile Diabetic Retinopathy programme initiated in Kolkata

Mission for Vision as part of the Sightsavers Kolkata Urban Slum Programme initiated the mobile Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) screening programme in Kolkata. The mobile DR unit was inaugurated on 29th February, 2016 at the Vision Centre in Entali, Kolkata run by the Entali Bani Institute. The unit was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Swarna Saha, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Entali.  Other dignitaries present at the inauguration were Mr. Dipankar Paul, President, 56 Ward Committee; Mr. Debojyoti Sarkar, Public Prosecutor; Mr. Asim Kumar, Lawyer & Social worker; Mr. Bijay Das, President, Entali Bani Institute and Mr. Partha Bhattacharya, Librarian, Entali Bani Institute. Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials, ICDS workers and school teachers also participated in the inauguration ceremony.Mr. Swarna Saha mentioned that he was aware of the activities carried out by the vision centre and was impressed by the services provided in the form of free/ subsidised and quality eye care services to the community. While addressing the audience he said “Diabetes being a  lifestyle disease has affected most of the population and the provision of free screening will help in the prevention of blindness occurring due to diabetic retinopathy”.  He assured his unstinted support in expanding the activities of the Vision Centre for the benefit of society. Mr. Paul, explained the goals and objectives of the DR unit and expressed his happiness at being able to contribute towards this noble activity.

LVPEI inaugurates its 3rd eye care centre in Odisha

On December 13th, 2015, Mission for Vision's partner, LVPEI opened its 3rd secondary eye care centre in Odisha. It was formally inaugurated by the Hon CM of Odisha – Shri Naveen Patnaik at Brahmapur. MFV supported the construction of the operation theatre in the unit.

Fullerton India supports MFV's Community Eye Health Initiative

The Fullerton India Credit Company Limited is supporting the Community Eye Health initiative at Ahmednagar district. It was formally inaugurated at Kopargaon Vision Centre by Mr. Ashish Singh (General Manager, Sales and Product Head – Rural business) in the presence of other Fullerton officials, Tulsi Chanrai Eye Hospital and Mission for Vision team members. The project aims to screen over 3,840 patients in the first year and undertake over 300 surgeries. 

Under this initiative, the Community Health Worker undertakes door-to-door survey to identify people with eye conditions,  screening camps are organised with a qualified optometrist in attendance, and patients diagnosed to receive treatment at the base hospital are transported from the camp to Tulsi Chanrai Eye Hospital. The locations of the outreach camps are Ahmednagar, Kopargaon, Niphad, Srirampur, Sangamner and Rahuri.

Mission for Vision partners with SABIC
On November 27, 2015, the first screening camp for the “They See, They Learn’’ initiative was successfully held at the Sarjapura Government School, Anekal Taluka.

The event started off at 10.30 am and during the day 161 students between the 1st and 7th standard were screened. A total of 12 children were identified with Refractive Error and they were prescribed glasses. The students got to choose their preferred frames from the available choices and orders for the same were placed.

Patient Care – A White Paper by MFV at VISION 2020 Posted on October 9, 2014 by missionforvision

VISION 2020 is a global initiative championing the cause for the elimination of avoidable blindness. It is a joint program between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), with an international membership of NGOs, professional associations, eye care institutions and corporations.

The big highlight for the month of July 2012 was that Mission for Vision participated in the 8th Annual Conference of VISION 2020 India, held in Madurai. Over 460 participants included 300 participants who represented 58 member institutions from 18 states. Different cadres of eye care professionals were represented at the conference with nearly 136 Doctors and Ophthalmologists, 171 administrators and 153 paramedical staff attending the conference.
