Sankara Eye Hospital (SEH), Guntur, Andhra Pradesh
Sankara Eye Hospital, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh was inaugurated on 1st March 2004 with the active support of the TANA Foundation, Sankara Eye Foundation USA and philanthropic families in Guntur and nearby areas.
Built in over 4.35 acres land, the hospital is a 225 bed capacity facility. Expansion of the hospital facilities is going on to meet the demand. Tentatively the plan is to add a LASIK facility, state-of-the-art eye equipment, an additional 100 free beds, expand the paid section and build staff quarters. The hospital performs more than 25,000 cataract surgeries per year.
Sri Srinivasa Sankara Nethralaya (SSSN), Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh
Following an invitation from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, (TTD), Sankara Nethralaya and the TTD signed a Memorandum of Agreement on April 25, 2010 for providing ophthalmology services to the TTD employees, devotees and pilgrims at Tirupati. The TTD has set up a separate non-profitable Charitable Trust – Sri Srinivasa Sankara Nethralaya (SSSN) Trust, to establish an eye care centre on the 2nd floor of the TTD’s Central Hospital in Tirupati on September 21, 2009.
All patients will be treated for free with all expenses borne by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam through SSSN. Sankara Nethralaya, on its part provides the ophthalmologists and all para-medical and non-medical manpower. At present, the SSSN examines around 75 patients every day. This is expected to rise to about 100. About 20 cataract surgeries can be performed every day in the hospital operation theatre. Outreach camps are also conducted to bring patients to SSSN for surgery. The hospital performs more than 1500 cataract surgeries every year.
