Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya had a very humble beginning and started functioning in a house donated by Mr. Dipankar Chatterjee. The institution was dedicated to the nation by the then Prime Minister of India, Late P. V. Narasimha Rao on 24th November, 1995.
The hospital has beds for patinets, an ICU facility and operation theatres where all types of eye surgeries are performed. Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya is a postgraduate teaching hospital, having primary eye clinics, modern well-equipped operation theatres, and an extensive out-patient department with a wide range of sub-specialty clinical and non-clinical support services. The institution provides consultations and treatment to patients from the entire North Eastern region and the adjoining states of India, as well as neighbouring countries.
